Frequently Asked Questions...
Can a 6 month old kitten that is not in heat get pregnant.?
We caught little Aliya playing around with a tom in the back yard. She's never been in heat, can she still get pregnant "o .She's a ragdoll with a squirrels tail and would make adorable kittens but with 4 cats in the house already this is not an option.
Answer:
She wouldn't mate and get pregnant if she weren't in heat, BUT the catch is that sometimes symptoms of a kittens first heat cycle are not yet as dramatic as they usually will become in subsequent ones, so sometimes the owner does not even realize she was going into heat. Tomcats are better than humans at recognizing this! And that's how many "oops" pregnancies happen --- sometimes in kittens too young , like your little Aliya.. It would be like an 11 or 12 year old girl getting pregnant -- not good for her, not the best start for babies either. There's a good chance if she did carry them to term she could need a c-section.
Hopefully she is not pregnant yet but please get her to the vet ASAP for a spay and until then keep her inside or only let her out on a harness and leash where you have control. It might be that she is in the period right before heat and the tom didn't know if she was receptive yet but thought it was worth a try, and she was not cooperative. In case that's what was going on, don't give her a chance to cooperate next time! Call the vet tomorrow! ![]()
