Frequently Asked Questions...
How do you set a frame target?
I'm trying to build a website for my own personal use, with 2 vertical frames. I have my portal frame and my home page frame set up, but when I try to link my menu, to the main frame, it either pulls up a new browser tab, or takes it to another unframed location. I've been looking all morning for a possible solution, but none seem to work. How do I link the portal links on my portal frame to the main frame? Sincerely, a frustrated web builder
Answer:
Hi There,
First you have to make a "frameset" with two vertical frames. I would name this file "index.html" since it will be the first to be read. I usually use "Coffeecup" ( a free html editor) to make the frameset then use Kompozer to make the pages used by the frameset.
Kompozere is another free html editor ( a '" what you see is what you get ") editor that works very well. Kompozer does not support frames but is fine for making the regular webpages you link to the frameset.
Here is a simple way to make two vertical colums . You can edit the source names and column sizes...You also can target either the left or right frames from other pages.
These frames need to be named ie. " left" and "right" (or whatever you want to call them).
Next you select the source for each frame so it will appear in the approiate frame.
You will need three separate html files 1. the frameset 2. portal 3. home page
The frameset could be named "index.html" and will link to the other two pages to the proper frame
The first link below is for 'how to make a frameset by W3Schools
The next two links are for Kompozer and Coffeecup html editors.
Hope this helps,
Al
