Things You Can Do If Your Engine Is Dead
One of my customers a few years ago - who was stuck at the shopping mall, once gave me a call for help. She couldn't get her vehicle motor to turn over. Attending to her vehicle's issue was fortunately simple enough as I was quite nearby then. The battery terminals were not fastened properly. Although occasionally they do loosen over time yet these are straightforward to attach properly. This is what happened in this situation. All I had to do to fix her issue was tighten the terminals that were fastened to the bare cable ends. If your motor requires some new components call Atlanta engine parts.
When your motor does not turn over at all, it usually has a battery related issue. Unfastened or corroded battery terminals cause many cars to be towed to auto fix shops every year. If the vehicle fails to fire up, examine the battery and battery connections first. Switching on the head lamps and pressing the horn is a useful method of examining your automobile's battery. This will be a quick test to see if your battery has any power left in it. You could have a look at the wirings around the batteries assuming your horn and head-lamps aren't functioning. I leave the lights on while trying this so I can tell if I'm making a better connection when moving the battery terminals.
After examining your vehicles battery connections for any problems, you should then perform a load test with a battery tester. Many times a battery will show signs of failure by turning the motor over slowly when it's beginning to fail, this is an early warning to have the battery tested. At times, you will find that the batteries can go bad quite unexpectedly. Sometimes a issue with a battery is revealed by temperature changes which otherwise may go unnoticed. Significant changes in temperature will effect the ability of a vehicle to fire up. Batteries will need to have a good charge before they can be properly tested. Modern battery testers will indicate if the battery has a sufficient charge to be checked.
Alternators that are not charging properly can cause a vehicle to have similar symptoms. A vehicle owner should ensure that the alternator output meets manufacturer's specifications. The components store or auto fix shops have the test equipment to examine the alternator output for you. They will examine the amperage, volts, diode pattern and examine to see if the alternator has a draw or short that may be excessively draining the battery. Engine starters may have an open circuit or use an undue amount of amperage. After examining to ensure that a good battery is installed, examine the big cable connection at the starter which is the 12v one that comes directly from the battery. Proceed to the starter solenoid as the next step. Maintaining a watch over the power supply when you fire up the vehicle. It is most likely that the starter has an open circuit or is binding, if power is going to the starter solenoid but the starter is not engaging. The starter may have to be tapped with a hammer to get the motor to turn over. This is just a temporary fix to let you to get your vehicle to a fix shop. I've used this method many times to avoid being forced to tow the vehicle. The starter can also be tested to see if it is creating too much of a draw on the battery. The starter can drag and will pull a charge from the battery that is too much. In order to see if the amp draw is too much, it is analyzed with an electrical system tester and a battery.
