Why I Love Sports Photography

Pro+Sports+Club

I have always been an avid sports fan. Watching and participating in sports is fundamentally a religion in our country. Much of our economy derives its income from sports, both pro and grass roots. Heading to any game live brings out the adrenalin and being able to be part of a game live, especially when it's close is generally a great memory. But often, it's wonderful to capture those moments on film. Some of the best sporting moments have been caught on film, framed and sold to millions of people around the planet who need to have that great memory on their wall.

As such, professional sports photographers are always in demand. The ability to be in a position to capture the right moment, is so difficult. A micro-second too early or too late can ruin a shot. Much of the pictures we see in our newspaper publications are from those professional sports photographers who are just so talented.

Any photographer that can capture that moment ought to be rewarded well for their services and as such many sports photographers who succeed are able to earn a vey decent income. However to get to that point is tough.

If this is something you are interested in and would like to explore, you have to be begin at amateur or grass roots sports. Many amateur clubs would be willing to take on a photographer trying to develop their wares if you were to offer your services for free while you develop your talents. Just head to your local sports club and enquire to see if they might like to get some shots of their players that they can employ to promote the club.

After plying your wares for a couple of months, ask the club if they like your shots and take in any improvements they may have. You're now well on the way to becoming a professional sports photographer.

MLS commissioner expresses concern about D.C. United’s stadium situation, open to club relocating in area or elsewhere (Washington Post)

During his annual state-of-the-league address Thursday, MLS Commissioner **Don
Garber **discussed D.C. United’s stadium situation:

“I remain very concerned and I am continually frustrated. This team has been
an important asset for the community, has delivered on everything a pro sports
team should be focused on. They’ve been successful, for the most part, on the
field. They’ve been engaged in the community, they’ve been operating with
minimal resources and yet have had a major league presence in the community.
And by the way, they’ve lifted a couple trophies, more so than perhaps some
other teams over the last 10 or 15 years.”
